Maghain Aboth Synagogue Tours

Maghain Aboth Synagogue in Singapore is an oldest Jewish tabernacle in Southeast Asia. It is situated at Waterloo Street near Bras Basah Road and Bencoolen Street and few kilometres off from Queen Street and Prinsep Street. It is a gazetted National Monument of Singapore constructed in 1878. To assume it further at Maghain Aboth Synagogue, Singapore’s Jewish community on a regular basis assembles to carry on services and ceremonies of Jewish festivals. The term ‘Maghain Aboth’ represents ‘Shield of Our Fathers’ in English. Maghain Aboth Synagogue constitutes the patent characteristics of a tabernacle. Mainly the tabernacle boasted single storey building. But it was till recent times that a second storey structure was also added. Jewish women are relieved of the duty to study Hebrew and read Torah. Hence, this structure is appropriated for the women attention prayer services. Also this section is very simple and small because only few women attend the services.
