Day 03: Mahabalipuram – Pondicherry (90 kms. - 2 hrs.)

Then proceed to Pondicherry.

Day 04: Pondicherry - Thanjavur (177 kms - 5 hrs):

Afternoon drive down to Thanjavur via Chidambaram .

Chidambaram is an industrial city in eastern part of Tamil Nadu and the taluk headquarters in the Cuddalore district. It is located in 58 km from Pondicherry, 60 km from Karaikal. Chidambaram is also known as Thillai, since the place was originally a forest of the thillai, botanically known as excecaria agallecha shrubs. It is an important pilgrim centre and a holy place for Saivites as the famous Nataraja Temple is located here. The idol of Nataraja is installed in the kanakasabha, the roof of which is covered with gold Plates. The icon is a stunning piece of sculpture that evokes a sense of continuous movement.

Day 05: Thanjavur - Trichy – Maduari(192 kms - 6 hrs.):

is Known as Athens of the East , Madurai is a place of great historical and cultural importance. It is the oldest city in Tamil Nadu and Madurai lies on the banks of the River Vaigai. Madurai is one of the liveliest cities in South India it was originally known as Kadambavanam or the " forest of Kadamba " or the Nauclea kadamba . Legend says that Lord Shiva appeared in the dream on the king, Kulasekhara Pandya. The king was amazed to see drops of nectar or madhu falling down of earth from Lord Shiva's matted hair. The "madhu" was so sweet that the place where it fell came to be known as Madhurapuri, which in course of time became "Madurai."
iruchirappalli, also called Tiruchi or Trichy, is a city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Tiruchirappalli is 325 km from Chennai. in ancient times it was home to the Cholas, the Pallavas and the Pandyas. Rock Fort :
Tiruchi's most famed landmark is an 83m high rock which is the only out crop in the otherwise flat land of the City. The most amazing fact about the rock is that it is one of the oldest inthe world - approximately 3,800 million years, which makes it as old as the rocks of green land and older than the Himalayas. Atop the rock is the Uchipillaiyar koil, a temple dedicated to Lord Vingayaka from where one can enjoy a panoramic view of Tiruchi. At light of stops lead to the Mathrubutheswarar of Thaymanaswami temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva where the lingam is a projection of the rock itself. Below the Siva temple there are two pallava cave temples that have beautiful sculptures of the 6th and centuries. At the foot of the Rock fort is a tank and a Pavilion which are used during the float festival of the temples. Near the tank are the home where Robest clive lived when he was in Tiruchy and an 18th Century Christ Church built by Revernd schwartz of Denmark. The home is now past of Thiruchy's famous St.Joseph's College.
