Drive to Sigiriya. En route visit the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage where around 70 orphaned elephants are fed and looked after by the wild life authorities . Afternoon - Visit 4th century Rock Cave Temple of Dambulla, which is the largest area of cave paintings in the world. Visit Polonnaruwa, the second capital, from the 10th to 12th century AD. See the ruins of the Royal Palace, Gal Vihara (three splendid statues of Buddha in upright, sedentary and recumbent postures carved out of one rock). Morning - Climb the 5th century Rock Fortress of Sigiriya famed for its beautiful frescoes and water fountains. Drive to Kandy. En route, visit a Batik factory and experience the intricate art of traditional hand-made Batiks. Also visit a spice garden. Afternoon - Tour of the city and surrounding areas of Kandy including visit to an arts & crafts center, a gem museum, a lapidary and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha. Morning - Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens which were first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king and later expanded by the British. They are an expansive 147 acres and have an amazing variety of trees, plants and flowers. Afternoon – Drive to the Bandaranaika International Airport (120 km – 3 hrs) for your return flight to your home country. |
