Mappilassery Mansion is a traditional ancestral ancestral home located in champakulam, near Alleppey in Kerala. Champakulam is part of Kuttanad, the rice bowl of kerala, an are resplendent in green paddy fields, coconut groves and water fowl. The homestay is located in a 25 acre property with paddy, vanilla, coconut, arecanut and mango trees. It is interlaced with small water channels, abounding in fish. The house has an ara, the ancient timber room used to store grain. Mappilassery Mansion is owned by the Mapilassery family, an ancient Syrian Christian family whose history is linked with that of the region. The Champakulam Boat Race owes its origins to a service done by this family to the Raja of Champakassery more than four centuries ago.
