Entertainment

Entertainment For many visitors, the casinos of Macau are sufficient entertainment in themselves. For others, there is a surprising variety of activities available; a lot of the sports and night-life outlets are centred on the larger and newer hotels, but all it needs is a little effort, and some enthusiasm, for the longer-staying visitor to discover the multi-facetted attractions of Macau.

Gambling - There are nine casinos in Macau, all operated under Government franchise by the Sociedade de Turismo e Diversoes de Macau (STDM) and rules are standard in all gaming halls. Macau's casinos offer the largest variety of casinos game anywhere in the world, Players can opt for such games as blackjack, baccarat, roulette, boule, "big and small", fantan, keno, or they can choose from a glittering array of slot machines (called "hungry tigers" locally) which are computer-linked for super jackpot pay-outs.

* Horse Racing - The Macau Jockey Club is situated just across the bridge from Downtown Macau on the Taipa Island. It is one of the most technologically advanced racecourses in the Asia Region. Over 900 fine thoroughbreds are in training which are imported from various countries such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand Canada, U.S.A. and France.

* Greyhound Races - The Canidrome, located in the northern part of the city, is the only Greyhound Racing facility in Asia. Today, it is considered one of the largest and best equipped in the world.

Shopping Macau is a free port and imported goods are generally taxed at low rates, the prices are cheaper than many other cities in the region. Most popular buys remain jewellery (particularly gold), Chinese antiques, porcelain, pottery, electric gadgetry, watches, knitted wear, etc. They are available at duty free prices and no sales tax is charged, but bargaining is standard on such items.

Best Time to Visit in Macau If you wondered when to visit Macau, the safest bet is autumn. In Macau it is autumn during October to December. During the period the temperature remains pleasantly moderate. An average of 20-25 degree centigrade offers a comfortable weather for everyone to go out and engage in activities. You can also opt for visiting Macau during the spring also. The months from March to May are the spring season in Macau. This is also one of the best times for visiting Macau. The climate in Macau is similar to that of the neighbor city Hong Kong. The humidity level in the air is quite high throughout the year. During the summer months, i.e: from July to September, the temperature soar high and the humidity level too. On the other side the winters are nippy. Sometimes it rains and is windy too.
