Royal Chapel of St Anthony Travel

Saint Anthony was renowned and revered as the patron saint of the Portuguese Army as well as the Portuguese Navy. The Royal Chapel is situated opposite to the dilapidated Church of St. Augustine. The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary is also located nearby.

The Royal Chapel St Anthony is considered to be one of the first churches to be constructed by the great Portuguese warrior Alfonso de Albuquerque. The chapel was abandoned at one time in 1835 and was neglected due to a Government decree. However, the chapel was later rebuilt and renovated in 1961 by Vassalo de Silva the last Governor General of Goa.
