Akshaya Vat is a banyan tree, which found mention in a number of historical works. According to the Hindu mythology, Akshaya Vat is an immortal tree.

The tree is found inside the underground Patalpuri Temple, situated inside the Allahabad Fort.

The pilgrims in olden days threw themselves up in the tree in order to attain salvation.
