The Khanderi Fort is 3-4 km from Thai Beach. The fort was constructed in the year 1678. The Fort bears on a small island. A lighthouse was built later on. The fort was beneath the British control for a long time

The various attempts made by the British to captivate the island fort of Khanderi were not productive till the year 1750. The garrison was finally delivered to the British as part of the Peshwa territory


Today, the Khanderi Fort is under the administration of Bombay Port Trust. The fort can be explored in local boats with the permit of the Bombay Port Trust.
